The tree that never had to fight For sun and sky and air and light, But stood out in the open plain, And always got its share of rain, Never became a forest king, But lived and died a scrubby thing.   The man who never had to toil, To gain and farm his patch of soil, Who never had to win his share Of sun and sky and light and air, Never became a manly man But lived and died as he began.   Good timber does not grow with ease: The stronger wind, the stronger trees; The further sky, the greater length; The more the storm, the more the strength. By sun and cold, by rain and snow, In trees and men good timbers grow.   Where thickest lies the forest growth, We find the patriarchs of both. And they hold counsel with the stars Whose broken branches show the scars Of many winds and much of strife. This is the common law of life. - Good Timber by Douglas Malloch

The need to reprogram our thinking for this information age.

Some times during our childhood days, we are programmed to do certain actions to obtain certain results. And our actions for that particular task stops once we obtain the results.

For ex. we are being asked to study well in our school to get admitted into a good university. And do well in the university to get a good job in an awesome jaw-dropping MNC. And to just agree with what ever the elders say and to agree with what ever the men in the house hold says .. etc

So due to all this keying which is done into our sub conscious we are led to believe that what ever the person in power/boss/team leader says is correct. or once we get a job we just need to learn to obtain some certifications or just need to study when we want to attend an interview in the next organization.

So after 10 years after graduating when we look back our lives won't be having much of accomplishments. we will be stuck in the same rut and we will remain in the same rut if we don't do anything about it.

We need to reprogram ourselves first by affirming to ourselves saying that learning is a part of our lives, and we are supposed to do it in every area of our life (In our Spiritual, Career, Relationships)

Gone are the days where there used to be a leader and a group of followers, we are living in the information / data age, if we are going to expect our bosses or team leader to give a career path or road map for us then we are surely doomed to be disappointed. Because neither they are equipped enough to do it and it's not their jobs to sit and create career plan's or road maps for their subordinates.

Now we have entered into Leader - Leader era, where we have to take leadership of each and every area of our lives, be it relationships or career or spirituality. And keep learning at least once in 6 months or 3 months.

Reading and Learning is always a interesting and a fun activity. It helps to understand the world around us in a different way as it keeps on changing often. Some times I am proud and at times I am also sad to say that my generation has seen the evolution of electronic gadgets from gigantic to hand held sizes. Dial Telephone's, Keypad Telephone's, Keypad Mobile phone's and Smart phone's. Propeller Aircrafts to Jet Aircrafts, Data Being stored in Disks and Tapes to Data being stored in a Cloud... etc etc. The list goes on

When Technologies change at this phase, Human's too change and dealing with Humans and new technologies needs newer knowledge. Leaders have to deal with emotional intelligence, Techies have to deal with the updated technologies now and then. If Learning is not a part of life we all will become redundant and useless at some point because we don't know how to work with the latest technology at that point of time.

So gone are the days where you read at school get some grades and join some ivy league or IIT or IIM or any private institution or govt. run university and get some fancy GPA and get a fancy job. The latest Job market is a market where only the best can survive (Survival of the fittest). Gone are the days where our KPA's are measured in the work we do in our day to day basis to deliver the product or service to the client. Now our KPA's are measured in what extra factor or value add service we are providing to the Customer or to the project. Value add's cannot be provided with out knowing the in and out of the Domain. Hence learning is an essential part of our lives in this new information and data era.

If we can reprogram ourselves to learn and upgrade ourselves in our domain or in a cross functional domain we will be the fittest in the market we can achieve heights.

As Isaac Newton puts it - "If I have seen further it is by standing on the shoulders of Giants."
