Good Timber by Douglas Malloch

The tree that never had to fight For sun and sky and air and light, But stood out in the open plain, And always got its share of rain, Never became a forest king, But lived and died a scrubby thing.   The man who never had to toil, To gain and farm his patch of soil, Who never had to win his share Of sun and sky and light and air, Never became a manly man But lived and died as he began.   Good timber does not grow with ease: The stronger wind, the stronger trees; The further sky, the greater length; The more the storm, the more the strength. By sun and cold, by rain and snow, In trees and men good timbers grow.   Where thickest lies the forest growth, We find the patriarchs of both. Traits that differentiates the innovators from the rest

Innovators and Revolutionaries tend to have a very particular mix of traits - Particularly openness , conscientiousness and agreeableness .  Innovators have to be open , they have to be able to imagine things that others cannot and to be willing to challenge their own preconceptions.  Innovators have to be Conscientious , they should be able to have the discipline and persistence to carry out their brilliant ideas. else they just become dreamers who dream of brilliant ideas but lacks the discipline and persistence in executing them. But its very crucial that innovators need to be disagreeable , They are people willing to take social risks - to do things that others might disapprove of. That's not easy society frowns on disagreeableness. We humans are hardwired to seek the approval of those around us. How to kickstart learning new skills with something fun

In one of the radio podcasts with "Hello Monday" Microsoft's CEO Satya Nadella was asked about Growth Mindset,  He gave an amazing response " If you take two kids at school, one of them has more innate capability but is a know-it-all. The other person has less innate capability but is a learn-it-all. The learn-it-all does better than the know-it-all. "   Click here for the full interview  So the question becomes how to become a learn it all ? ? how can we learn new things or things that we are deeply passionate about but we don't get the time to do it.  We learn things due to 2 reasons. 1. Because of Necessity  2. Emotional Maturity

Was doing some research over the weekend on how a child's upbringing during their childhood days affects the child's adulthood, During which I stumbled upon a book - "Adult Children of Emotionally Immature Parents", really an insightful book.  After reading the book was inspired to make a list of characteristic traits that emotionally mature and immature adults have and thought it would be useful so posted it here.  Emotional Maturity is a personality trait in which a person has a good understanding of who they are and can manage their emotions no matter their circumstances.   Characters of adults and elders with emotional immaturity: They expect everyone to want and value the same things they do  They expect the people they have hurt to just forgive them when they apologise, and move on with the relationship as if nothing ever happened They expect others to admire, give attention, watch over and handle them carefully and get upset if it's not met. The need to reprogram our thinking for this information age.

 Some times during our childhood days, we are programmed to do certain actions to obtain certain results. And our actions for that particular task stops once we obtain the results.  For ex. we are being asked to study well in our school to get admitted into a good university. And do well in the university to get a good job in an awesome jaw-dropping MNC. And to just agree with what ever the elders say and to agree with what ever the men in the house hold says .. etc So due to all this keying which is done into our sub conscious we are led to believe that what ever the person in power/boss/team leader says is correct. or once we get a job we just need to learn to obtain some certifications or just need to study when we want to attend an interview in the next organization.  So after 10 years after graduating when we look back our lives won't be having much of accomplishments. we will be stuck in the same rut and we will remain in the same rut if we don't do anything about i...
